Every day AstroPal compares where the planets are now with your birth chart and writes it up in a few plain paragraphs. A one-line headline sums up the day's sky, and the Moon's sign and phase set the themes the day calls for.
Seven returns count down on the Today tab: Moon, Mercury, Sun, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Tap one for a reading of where that planet falls in the return chart, cast for your birthplace, and a bi-wheel of the return around your natal chart. The big passages of a life, such as your Saturn return, get their own alert on Today.
The Chart tab draws your birth chart the way astrologers read it: the twelve signs in a band coloured by element, the houses, the four angles and the aspects between the planets. Tap a planet for its reading, or enlarge the wheel to full screen.
One button turns the wheel into a bi-wheel: your chart inside, the sky at the moment you choose outside. Step the day or the hour, pick any date and time of day, or jump back to now. Under it, every aspect from a transiting planet to your chart, tightest first; tap one for its reading.
The Sky tab draws the heavens right now for your birth city, or for any of the 6,600+ built-in cities at the date and time you choose, read in that place's own time zone. Four buttons step the sky an hour or a day either way, and Back to now returns to the live sky. Overlay your own chart to see how the sky sits against it.
Profile reads the chart as a whole. It gives your Rising sign with a plain-English reading, weighs the elements and modalities, names the chart's shape and its strongest planets, says whether it's a day or a night chart, and shows the year you are in and the life stages ahead.
Match compares two birth charts: a score and verdict, five relationship dynamics with the aspects behind each one, and the balance of elements between you. Fill either side from your own chart or any saved chart. With both birth times known it adds the angle contacts and a house overlay.

Setup asks for your date of birth, then the time (or "I don't know"), your birth city and, if you like, a name. You can also skip it and look around first.

No. AstroPal calculates everything on your phone and works offline, with no account or sign-in. The only part that uses the internet is the optional newsletter form on its Data & Privacy page.
Seven: Placidus (the default), Whole Sign, Equal, Koch, Porphyry, Regiomontanus and Campanus. Change it from the house-system chip on the Chart tab or in Settings, and every screen follows. Very close to the poles, where Placidus and Koch can't be calculated, the chart shows Porphyry houses and says so.
No, the time is optional. Without it AstroPal places the planets at noon and shows the Moon's range for the day, with no Rising sign, houses or angles, and says so on the chart. The houses and angles also need your birth city.
Up to 25 saved charts, for family, friends or anyone. Open the chart name at the top to view one, set it as your own chart or delete it, and fill either side of Match from any of them. You can also save up to 20 matches.
Yes. On the Chart tab, Show transits to this chart turns the wheel into a bi-wheel: your chart inside and the sky at the moment you choose outside. Step the day or the hour, or pick any date and time of day, and the list below shows every aspect from a transiting planet to your chart, tightest first.
Yes. Settings has Dark (the default), Light and Auto, which follows your phone's light or dark setting.
Only on your phone, in the app's own storage. AstroPal opts out of Android's cloud backup and has no export yet, so uninstalling the app deletes your charts. Reset all data, in Settings, erases everything at any time.
